Budget Friendly Travel Tips From Top Travel Experts

If you don’t know where you’re going on vacation this year, you may not be indecisive. You might just be a bargain hunter.

Increasingly, travelers are trading the certainty of the destination for savings, Peter Yesawich, vice chairman of MMGY Global, a marketing firm with expertise in the travel, hospitality and entertainment industries, said at the Los Angeles Times Travel Show. Instead of saying, “I want to go to Hawaii,” bargain buffs who say, “I just want warm and sunny” open their horizons. In other words, being geographically agnostic pays off.

Which raises the question of where the bargains are likely to be. At a panel discussion last weekend at the Travel Show, three bargain travel experts discussed their strategies for stretching vacation dollars.

–Look for trouble, said Gabe Saglie, senior editor of deal site TravelZoo — not trouble you create but trouble that’s been visited upon a destination. Places that have recently experienced some type of turmoil, whether it’s financial (Ireland and Greece) or climatological (Thailand with recent floods) may be ripe for plucking from the bargain bin. Japan, still recovering from the earthquake and resulting tsunami in March, also may offer some opportunities.

–Look for the crowds, said John Di Scala, founder of JohnnyJet.com. This year, you may find the Mediterranean crowded with cruise ships, which means the per-night cabin price may drop dramatically. He also suggested the Caribbean in September, which is still hurricane season but may offer some deals. (”Ships can navigate around storms,” he said.)

–Look for where the crowds aren’t, said Doug Miller, senior vice president of new initiatives for LivingSocial. Ski resorts suffered a well-publicized dearth of snow early in the season, and although Mother Nature has since stopped being so stingy with the white stuff, the perception that the cupboard is bare lingers. Look for specials at resorts eager to be myth busters.

–Sign up for everything. Because airlines don’t have as much inventory as they once did, and thus less of it to move at fire-sale prices, some take to Twitter or Facebook to announce last-minute sales of the few seats they do have. When looking at an airline, hotel or car rental site that asks whether you’d like info about special offers, just say yes. (You could create a separate email account just for those special deliveries because they’ll clog your everyday inbox.)

–Peruse plenty of places. Miller of LivingSocial says deal hounds will check 18 to 23 sites in the course of their research. All three experts suggested looking at the sites they work for, of course, but they also suggested Airfarewatchdog.com, Yapta.com, Kayak.com (an airfare aggregator),Priceline.comand BiddingforTravel.com, which can help guide you before you place you bid; Homeexchange.com (for house swapping); VRBO.com (vacation rental by owner); and FlyerTalk.com (good for info on rewards programs). To their list I would add SmarterTravel.com, CruiseCompete.com and WhichBudget.com (with a thank you to Kiplinger’s for calling out this site, which compares prices for airfares within Europe).

–Watch out for those “bite you in the budget” hidden fees that can wreck your best-laid plans. Make sure you ask about such cost extras as hotel parking (ask whether the fee quoted is per night or for your total stay); hotel resort fees (you can try to negotiate them with the hotel if you don’t use, say, the spa or the phone); baggage fees (learn to pack lightly and carry it on, except on airlines that charge for that — Spirit in the U.S. and many foreign carriers abroad); and fuel surcharges (foreign carriers are increasingly adding these).

–Most of all, be flexible. Don’t fly on the days that are busiest for business travel — Fridays and Mondays — because you may pay higher prices; stay at business destinations when the business folks have gone home for the weekend; and go in the off-season, because it’s never the wrong season for saving money.

I’d also like to warn travelers about hidden fees with rental cars and in some foreign countries there is actually a tax on all travelers just to leave the country. A friend recently traveled to Costa Rica and was surprised to find out at the airport that she needed to pay a tax to help build and repair roads. If you are standing at the check in and they say you have to pay a fee to leave the country there is nothing you can do but get out your wallet. We hope these budget friendly travel tips from top travel experts are helpful to you.

When you compare the benefits of a travel club over a timeshare it becomes clear how much money you can save by joining a travel club. I also believe it is more fun to have the freedom to select a different destination for each vacation. No going back to the same old places. Explore more destinations with a travel club.

Benefits of a Travel Club Over a Timeshare

Now there exist two most spread types of organization you can invest to save in the sphere of traveling. You probably know that, it was the time not so long ago, when buying timeshares was the only way to get a good deal on yearly vacationing. Then there appeared so called discount vacation clubs such as resorts 360. That is the reason why many people are on a crossroad as they don’t know which one is more lucrative and less demanding: timeshares or vacation clubs. In a number of following paragraphs we are going to analyze both this business models: vacation clubs and time shares.

First of all, let’s look at the initial costs of vacation clubs membership and buying a timeshare. I want to tell you that in order to purchase a timeshare at a resort or second hand from the original owner you would need to pay something like $13,000 – $15,000. Indeed for this money you would receive a week of time at a resort. Alternatively, in case you join a vacation club, you would have to pay from $200 to $500 tot get access to vacations around the world.

Besides, this would be not the only money you would have to pay. If owning a timeshare, be ready to pay the so called recurring costs that include maintenance fees, upkeep, furniture and appliances, roof and pool replacement, and of course insurance and property taxes. On the other hand, being a vacation club member you would have to pay some monthly fees that may vary between vacation clubs like resorts 360 vacation club. You should understand that there is a way to not have any monthly fee. To do this you need to bring in four people who buy any package of this or that vacation clubs. By bringing new people to your vacation club you not only;y erase the yearly payment for yourself, but you also open some new travel business opportunity.

One more benefit of vacation clubs is that they give you discounted rates for air travel, hotels, car rentals, vacation packages, and travel insurance. And it’s great that that you can use these privileges any time of year as many times as you need. Besides, vacation clubs have such thing as concierge service. It may be really useful as you can use anywhere and anytime to get information on just about anything you need while home or abroad.

With so many families on the roads this week we decided to provide some road trip advice for the holidays. The good news is travel volume is expected to remain high during the holidays even as many families are on tighter travel budgets this year. AAA reported that the biggest increase for traveling is in the automobile category.

Road Trip Advice for the Holidays

Expected travel volume will be second highest in past ten years, representing nearly 30 percent of U.S. population AAA forecasts 91.9 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home during the 2011-12 Year-End holiday travel season, a 1.4 percent increase over the 90.7 million people who traveled one year ago.

This year’s expected Year-End holiday travel volume is the second highest in the past decade and represents 30 percent of the total U.S. population. The 11-day Year-End holiday period is the longest holiday travel season of the year, affording many more Americans time to visit family or take vacations. AAA defines the Year-End holiday travel season as Friday, December 23, 2011 to Monday, January 2, 2012.

Automobile is top transportation choice, increases 2.1 percent Approximately 83.6 million people (91 percent of holiday travelers) plan to take to the nation’s roadways this Year-End holiday travel season, a 2.1 percent increase compared to 2010-11 when the number of auto travelers totaled 81.9 million…

Train, bus, other modes of travel increases 4.2 percent Other modes of travel (bus, trains, watercraft, multi-modal travel) will make up the remaining three percent of the total person-trips, with 2.9 million people expected to travel by these modes, 4.2 percent higher than 2010-11. Economic conditions are dictating that some Americans that otherwise might travel by air or automobile are traveling by these alternative modes of transportation.

Hotel rates increase; car rental rates decrease According to AAA’s Leisure Travel Index, hotel rates for AAA Three Diamond or mid-range lodgings are expected to increase a modest one percent from last year with travelers spending an average of $126 per night compared to $125 one year ago. Travelers planning to stay at AAA Two Diamond hotels can expect to pay four percent more at an average cost of $92 per night, up from $88 last year.

Daily car rental rates are $40 on average, a 21 percent decrease from one year ago and the lowest seen in the past five years. As the demand for used cars fluctuates or car manufacturers offer fewer opportunities for buying back fleets it can become harder for car rental companies to shrink their fleet to meet demand. With a larger pool of cars in the market, car rental companies must lower pricing to match supply and demand.

Year-End Holiday Travel Tips

More Americans travel during the Year-End holiday season than during any other holiday period throughout the year. Our nation’s roadways and airports will be busier than normal, so holiday travelers should be sure to pack more patience. AAA offers these important travel tips that can help everyone have an enjoyable and safe Year-End holiday season.

Plan ahead. Use a travel planning tool like AAA’s TripTik Travel Planner available at AAA.com to help identify the best driving routes, rest stops, and shop the latest gas prices. Our nation’s highways will be crowded with both holiday travelers and day-trippers. Continuously monitor weather conditions along your route and be prepared with contingency plans. Doing your homework could save valuable time, fuel costs, and improve travel safety.

Avoid the 3 Deadly D’s of Driving: Drunk or Drugged Driving. Remember that impairment begins with the first sip of alcohol. A designated driver should be alcohol-free, not merely the person in your party who has consumed the least amount of alcohol. Many medications have side effects that cause impairment, so read medication labels thoroughly.

Drowsy Driving. Get seven to nine hours of sleep before driving. Take a break every 100 miles or two hours. Do not drive during hours when you routinely sleep. If you feel tired while driving, pull over to a safe location and take a 20-to 30-minute nap.

Distracted Driving. It is the driver’s responsibility to keep eyes, mind and body fully focused on the task of driving. Assign a passenger to be the designated texter, talker, and navigator. If traveling alone, pull over to a safe location to use your cell phone or adjust your navigation device, then proceed on your trip distraction free. Child and pet passengers can be distractions to drivers, so allow another adult passenger to interact with these family members.

Before you head off down the road make sure you’ve utilized technology to it’s fullest for planning and getting bargains. You may decide to get your information on the road but keep in mind, internet connections can be weak in certain areas and during bad weather. You may have no trouble but you should do as much research ahead of time as you can. That is my road trip advice for the holidays.

These white, bug-eyed pods carry up to four passengers and their luggage, all without the need for a driver. The pods have greatly reduced the travel time and airports in the U.S. are currently reviewing the system.”

Have you been trying to figure out how to plan a family ski vacation with more frosty fun for everyone? The article featured today from Family Vacation Critic was written by Kimberly Liuhas and I loved it because it has every tip you can imagine plus a few more on family ski vacations and how to plan them perfectly.

If your family loves the colder weather and the sports that go with it, wouldn’t it be great to get away this winter and make some fantastic memories. Remember these tips for how to plan a family vacation with more frosty fun!

“There’s something special about kids and parents out on the slopes together, swishing down the mountain side by side and laughing together when they fall, and going in for hot chocolate when they just can’t take the cold any longer.”

“And then later back at the lodge, sitting by a fire together, playing family games or sneaking out for a quick dip in the hot tub. There aren’t many occasions when kids get to see their parents enjoying themselves like they did as a child, and perhaps this is why everyone seems to get along better on a ski vacation, and oftentimes family traditions are started.”

“Decide on when you’d like to take your trip.”

“After opting for slopeside accommodations, avoiding huge crowds is the second most important factor to consider for ensuring a great trip. Although many families are limited by their children’s schedules, weekends, holidays (especially Christmas week and President’s Day weekend), and school vacations are the priciest and most crowded times at ski resorts.”

“Think ahead about how your days will go”

“Where you will want to eat your meals and what you might like to do in the evenings. Making dinner and special activity reservations before you arrive can be essential at the most popular ski resorts. Don’t forget to avail to your concierge for ideas and assistance in planning. Also, think about the ages of the kids in your group.”

“Will you need childcare services?”

“Most young children will only last for a few hours at a time on the mountain and teens will want to be the first ones out and the last ones in. If your little ones are not going to be enrolled in an all-day kids’ camp, and other family members will want to ski a full day, check with the resort for additional childcare options or consider bringing along your own nanny or babysitter.”

“Buy your winter clothes beforehand”

“It pays in spades to do your shopping for ski clothes and gear early in the season and definitely before you reach the resort. Ski clothing supplies are limited each year and by mid-winter, you may have trouble finding the styles and sizes you prefer.”

“Although resorts do a pretty good job of having what you’ll need on hand, unless you are skiing at the end of the season, you’ll pay significantly higher prices for the convenience. (If you are skiing at the end of the season, this is the time to take advantage of resort sales on ski wear and pricey accessories like sunglasses and goggles.”

If you are bringing your own skis and equipment, you’ll need more packing tips and shipping information when it comes to ski gear and other luggage it could get expensive for budget conscious families. It is always best to ski with your own equipment because there is less chance of injury. Get the kids involved if you want to know how to plan a family ski vacation with more frosty fun, they will have the best ideas to share.

Where is your favorite place to ski? Why?

Tweet this post on twitter

These problems can be prevented with a little preparation. With these great tips found on Asia One.com health you can come up with a plan for treating your all kinds of personal health conditions that you know your family is likely to get while traveling.

Keep all medications sealed and keep prescriptions in their original bottles. Do not put them in weekly pill minders because authorities need to be able to tell what kind of medication you have and whether it is legal. Tummy troubles, headaches, stiff muscles, trouble sleeping, allergies, are just a few of the most common travel related ailments you might want to pack medication for. if you are going to be traveling soon pay attention to these family travel tips for packing medications.

“Whether you are travelling for a short business trip or for an extended vacation with your family, it pays to take steps to protect your health. Here are a few pointers to take note of before and during your trip.”

Be Prepared

“Always make sure that you obtain travel insurance prior to the trip. This is not only to ensure that your baggage is taken care of, but also to ensure that medical bills which might be incurred during your trip are covered. If you are traveling for work, check if your company is providing adequate insurance coverage for you.”

“If you need to take prescription medicine regularly, pay a trip to your doctor at least a week before your trip so that you can stock up on medication if necessary.”

“A checklist on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website recommends getting a prescription from your doctor specifying which medications you are taking. The last thing you want at the end of a long flight is to be questioned by Customs because your unlabelled pills look like illicit drugs.”

“Last but not least, get the necessary vaccinations, be it for influenza, malaria, yellow fever or meningitis. Seek pre-travel health advice and vaccinations before their year-end holidays, if the countries they are visiting have a high incidence of contagious diseases like flu and hepatitis.”

On Board

“Singapore’s normal humidity is about 70 percent, while that within an airplane cabin is about 5 to 20 percent. This can cause problems for people with dry skin or eyes. To keep your eyes moist, instill lubricant eye drops regularly. This is particularly important for people who already suffer from dry eyes or other eye conditions.”

“Those with dry skin may benefit from applying a body lotion before the flight. On board, a sheet mask for the face can also help to restore moisture to the skin. Cindy Cheong, a beauty consultant trainer for SK-II, says that putting on a sheet mask for ten minutes towards the end of the flight can re-hydrate and refresh parched skin.”

While You’re There

“Depending on your destination and the activities you’ll be doing, it may be wise to bring along a good pair of wraparound sunglasses. UV light is reflected by the sea as well as by snow, and can actually cause sunburn on one’s eyes.”

“To protect your eyes, use sunglasses that provide 100 per cent UV protection, are polarised, and wrap around the face so that light striking the side of the face is filtered before reaching the eyes.”

“If you intend to take part in water sports such as diving or swimming, make sure that you do not wear contact lenses but use powered goggles instead, says Dr Lee. This will greatly reduce the risk of eye infections. Contact lens wearers should also follow the instructions of their contact lens practitioner and not wear their lenses beyond their recommended duration.”

Good advice if you ask me, no matter where you are off to, tips for healthy family travel are useful but be sure you check with the specific airline to see if there are any other restrictions or requirements for medications.

Family vacations need child friendly activities and relaxation or what will happen is the worst thing that can happen on a family vacation, the kids will not be happy. Then what happens? The parents aren’t happy. Opportunities to relax for the adults usually happen when the kids are content or entertained or sleeping. In the article below found on hotelsfairy.com you’ll find five destinations that offer fascinating and exiting activities for adventurous kids.

Kids do not like walking around all day, they want fun and water slides and easy fun food to eat and plenty of it. They want to see their parents relax too so don’t forget family vacations need child friendly activities and relaxation for mom and dad.

“For month after month you’ve saved up all your hard earned cash, perused the web for the best available deals and sat fantasizing about your dream vacation while you were meant to be at work. But as you get stuck in to the latest John Grisham novel and your second daiquiri by the side of the hotel pool, a familiar voice pipes up: ‘Mom, I’m bored!’”

“Yep, while you may have made every conceivable effort to ensure your vacation provides just the right blend of relaxation and cultural attractions to suit yourself, you may just have forgotten about the children. With this in mind, here are 5 family vacations that’ll keep the kids happy while you get on with the important business of enjoying yourself.”

1. Nile Valley, Egypt

“Egypt is a fantastic destination for adventure-loving kids, with its great blend of wondrous ancient archeology and inviting modern comforts. No visit to Egypt would be complete without visiting the amazing pyramids at Giza, and kids will be amazed by these incredible structures that they may have read about at school or seen on TV.”

“Away from the monuments and landmarks, there’s a chance to relax in the famous Red Sea and enjoy the bustling marketsand delicious food of the busy city streets.”

2. Amsterdam, Netherlands

“Amsterdam may not seem like the best destination for family vacations, but in reality the city has a huge range of attractions that are suitable for children. Sure, Amsterdam has a very active nightlife scene, but in general, any areas you’d be uncomfortable with your kids exploring are located in one small area of the city.”

“Outside of this, there are numerous cultural delights to enjoy including amazing paintings at the Van Gogh Museum and the house of Anne Frank, along with the incredible NEMO science and technology center where kids can interact with live science experiments and explore a world of hands-on technology. Plus, there are numerous beautiful parks and the fantastic Artis Zoo for when you want to get some fresh air and enjoy the great outdoors.”

3. Turkey

“The landscape of the country is perfect for family vacations with beautiful beaches where parents can relax and children play and rocky pinnacles and caves for the whole family to explore.Turkish people are also renowned for their hospitality and are usually very happy to accommodate families with young children, so your kids may just be in for some serious spoiling.”

“Turkey’s unique mix of cultures also makes for some fantastically varied architecture including grand castles and palaces, imposing fortresses, incredible ancient monuments and beautiful, ornate mosques. “

4. South Africa

“If you’re looking for an adventure travel vacation, South Africa offers a great mix of wild attractions in a stable environment. South Africa provides some amazing wildlife excursions, with the Addo National Park offering families the chance to see the ‘Big 5’ of elephants, rhinos, lions, buffalos and leopards in their natural environments.”

“There are also some great opportunities for older children to try some adventure sports like rock-climbing, rafting, bungee jumping or even taking on one of the highest abseils in the world down the incredible Table Mountain.”

5. Spain

“Spain is a country rich in culture and despite its reputation for a relaxed pace of life, still has plenty to occupy the kids while you relax. There are some great locations for activities like horse-riding, canoeing and cycling and the idyllic scenery will appeal to adults and children alike. Even mealtimes seem geared to entertaining children, with traditional tapas allowing families to order loads of portions of different dishes to share, so there’s bound to be something for everyone.”

These are great locations for educational and adventurous fun keeping in mind the ages of the children involved and their preferences for museums or nature walks perhaps eating at sidewalk cafe is not your 5 year olds idea of fun, but a neighborhood playground or park is perfect for a quick picnic lunch. Think of it this way, you will always have memories of vacations the question is will they be happy content memories or bored and grumpy? Family vacations need child friendly activities and relaxation for adults.

Tired of working a nine to five job, in a windowless cubicle, doing mindless tasks that make you wonder what you just spent the last eight hours doing? Do you daydream about snorkeling in the Caribbean, sipping a glass of wine on the French Riviera, or basking in the sun in Rio? Does your daydream pass because you think that with a mortgage and two kids that you will never experience such luxuries? Think again! Resorts 360, has come up with a method for you to pilot your own gondola down the canals of Venice, while earning money. Working from home, earning a living, and traveling the world just skim the surface of what becoming a member of Resorts 360 has to offer.

How many times have you sat at your desk, and thought longingly of what it would be like to turn your computer off, grab an ice cream cone and a novel, and spend the afternoon in the park? By becoming a member of Resorts 360, you have the ability to do just that. You would have the capability to set your own schedule, and work from home. All you need is a phone, a computer, and a high-speed Internet connection. If you are like most people, you already have that covered right? Being a member of Resorts 360, is also very low pressure. You will not have somebody standing over your shoulder reminding you about deadlines. You can work as much or as little as you want at any given time, so if you need the afternoon off to go to your daughter’s dance recital, there will not be anybody there to tell you, that you can’t.

In today’s economy, few companies are bringing on new employees. Instead they are meeting the minimum staffing requirements, doubling the workload for their existing employees, and not compensating them financially. Does this sound familiar? Do you need a vacation? This is why becoming a member of Resorts 360, is a wonderful opportunity. In a society that is all work and no play, inexpensive vacation packages have an almost limitless market. You will earn a commission off of every membership you sell, and with so many people out there who are looking for a little rest and relaxation, the possibilities are endless.

Imagine sitting in your resort hotel room with a view of the Pacific Ocean with your laptop and your phone. Did I mention that as a member of Resorts 360 you can work from anywhere in the world? Did I also forget to mention that you will receive up to 80% off on your vacations? When was the last time you got 80% off of anything? As a member of Resorts 360, you will also get the benefits of inexpensive travel. You can travel to an exotic location, enjoy the sights, bask in the culture, and still make money while you are there. How many other jobs can you think of, that would allow you to do that?

Don’t let your daydreams, be just dreams. Who is to say that you can’t be a responsible working adult, and not also enjoy your life? Experience postcard worthy moments with your family, while you earn income. Break free from your cubicle, and enjoy the benefits of being a member of the Resorts 360 Travel Business Opportunity. There is a big world out there for you and your family to explore. What are you waiting for?
